How long do appointments last?

  • For secondary students in Years 10-12 who plan to return to school, a first career planning appointment with a Smithells® Professional typically takes about two and a half hours, including time for feedback to one or both parents or sponsors.
  • For secondary students in their final year (typically Year 12 or 13) at secondary school, a first career planning appointment with a Smithells® Professional will take a minimum of two and a half hours, including time for feedback to one or both parents or sponsors.
  • For students at university or polytechnic, and young adults working in employment, a first career planning appointment will take about two and a half hours, with or without feedback to a parent, partner or friend.
  • Sometimes, in an appointment, issues come up that are likely to affect a student's or young adult's career decisions. These issues often need to be worked through at the time. These issues tend to add extra time and extra cost to appointments.
